What is life coaching?
Life coaching is an opportunity to create the future you want. It helps you recognize and overcome the habits and behavioral patterns that hold you back so that you can realize your full potential.
People decide to hire a coach for every reason you can imagine: personal development, career development, money issues, spiritual development, relationship skills, improved health – areas where they want to grow, improve and succeed. In coaching, you look at the gap between where you are and where you want to be. Coaching gives you a new perspective on your situation and provides a space for you to figure out how to close that gap.
What does a life coach do?
I think of coaching sessions as a “laboratory “ for new ways to explore and experience yourself. Every session delves into a coaching topic that you choose. I ask powerful questions and listen deeply -- I go behind the words to hear what is really being said, and tell you what I hear. Using this information, we work together to discover what obstacles are in your way and how to overcome them.
Powerful questions might include: If you knew you wouldn't fail, what would you do? Where are you the most uncomfortable in your current life? What would you most like to change about your life? How are others affecting what you do? What do you really want out of your life, and what are you willing to do to make it happen?
One of the core benefits of working with me is the strong support system I provide. Without support, even your most genuine desire for change can be difficult to achieve. I help you move through the inevitable road blocks in life so that you accomplish more in a shorter period of time.
How is life coaching different from therapy?
The main purpose of therapy is to analyze your past as a tool for understanding who you are. In life coaching, you start with where you are today – not where you were. Coaching helps you identify and describe the behaviors you want to change so you can modify them.
In short, therapy examines the past to help you cope with the present; life coaching builds on the present to create the future.
How do you measure success in coaching?
Successful coaching is about more than just achieving your goals. Over time, you notice shifts in your thinking that create energy and actions, and shifts in your emotional state that inspire greater self-confidence.
Every coaching session helps in some way to move you forward. If you feel like you’re letting go of old ideas and beliefs that get and keep you stuck, you're making progress.
